Happy Pi Day 2012

March 14th is National Pi Day—a day, designated by Congress, to celebrate the never-ending number which represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter and its circumference. I am in no way a math expert, but do enjoy math as an amateur and appreciate the way it impacts every aspect of our lives (everything from sci-fi, puzzles & games, to art & music, and more). If you are so inclined, here are some quasi pi-related ways to commemorate the day:

• Read Yann Martel’s The Life of Pi (not about math at all, but an entertaining book nonetheless)
• Watch Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller Pi from 1998
• Check out ThinkGeek’s pi merch, or search Etsy for pi-related goods
• If you haven’t already, watch the Star Trek clip above, wherein Spock thwarts a computer run amok by wielding the power of pi
